Planning Your Stay
BIRS' spectacular location at The Banff Centre offers many opportunities for indoor and outdoor activities.
Banff is situated at 4,537 feet (1,383 metres) elevation. The air is thinner and may have an impact on some people. The UV rating is usually very high; you will want to bring sun protection if you plan to be outdoors. Also, the climate in Banff is very arid; it's important to stay hydrated. Bring your favorite water bottle - the water is free and clean.
The weather can be extreme and it can change quickly, so it's best to dress in layers; be prepared for cooler evenings, even in summer.
Many workshop organizers reserve a free afternoon, allowing participants to enjoy the many summer and winter outdoor activities available in Banff and the surrounding area.
On-site, access to the Sally Borden Fitness & Recreation facility is complimentary for BIRS participants staying at the Banff Centre (including Corbett Hall).
*Please note that Sally Bordern Fitness and Recreation is currently closed due to Covid-19 pandemic.
Banff is also a centre for the arts - check out the calendar of events - everything is a short walk from Corbett Hall and the dress code is casual.
Each room in Corbett Hall is equipped with a clock radio/alarm, a hairdryer and an iron and ironing board, and is supplied with linens and hotel-style amenities: shampoo, hair conditioner and body lotion. A coin-operated laundry is located in Corbett Hall.
